Hi,
I need to model a bamboo shopping cart for my bachelor's thesis and compare it with a conventional steel shopping cart. I have already modeled the conventional shopping cart quite well, including its recycling cycle.
Now I would like to model the production process of the bamboo shopping cart, but unfortunately many important process steps are missing from the available databases.
For example:
Bamboo Harvesting

Bamboo Culm Splitting
↓
Hydrogen Peroxide Bleaching
↓
Steam Caramelization
↓
Drying
↓
Adhesive Application
↓
Hot Pressing and Lamination
↓
Vacuum Forming
↓
Cutting and Finishing
↓
Acrylic Varnish Coating
What would be the best approach in LCA when these process steps are not available in the database? Would it be acceptable to create my own processes based on literature data, energy consumption estimates, and material inputs, or is there a more common methodology for handling missing process steps in openLCA?
