I understand that EF is for product footprints and come along with disclaimers and limitations, but there are some processes that I would like to model which I cannot find a very good alternative for in Ecoinvent

I would like to know which processes exist in EF and not in ecoinvent? Maybe some energy or transport from the Sphera nodes? Be aware that many processes are quite old, from 2010 or 2012.

I'm afraid that there will be no data sets allowed outside of PEF studies, due to licensing as Andreas said, but I'm still curious to learn which data sets are only in EF and not in ecoinvent. Maybe if it is frequently used ones, one could raise the need for this data to ecoinvent.

For sure, many processes are quite old! I work mainly with polymers, and have found quite a few that either are not found in Ecoinvent, or there is only data for the monomers, which would miss out the polymerisation processing

I understand, but be aware of the license limitations. If these are observed, you can of course apply a mapping, start  maybe from the ILCD mapping file in openLCA (which you get when you create a new database with reference data) and refine that as needed.

Check this please in the manual, e.g. apply a mapping file when importing the database into the ecoinvent database
