What exactly does the cut off thershold refer to?

Dear forum,
When I want to create a new product system in openlca, I can select a cut off threshold and determine the value for it. In the openLCA 2 manual it says: ‘Connections that contribute less than the threshold to the inventory are numerically cut off (in reference to the functional unit).’
What exactly does the threshold refer to? Does it refer to the environmental impact or to the weight of the inventory? Or does the threshold refer to something else?
I am using openLCA 2.2.0 and the ecoinvent database 3.10 cut-off unit processes.

Good question, it refers to the inventory flow, and thus this works best in databases like PSILCA where all products have the same unit.
