Hello,
I am modelling the use phase for a renewable support system in form of a flow battery for my master's thesis.
Which of the these two possibilities are correct?
1) The energy input for ancillaries is the german grid mix and energy input for charging is taken as the total energy provided by renewable source, and the recovered energy is used as input flow with a negative sign - this would enable to consider the negative impacts- hence the benefits of the battery. e.g. my battery delivers 160 MWh of energy, then this vaue is used as input flow with negative sign.
2) The energy input for renewables is only the net energy required for charging; e.g. if my battery is supposed to deliver 160 MWh of energy and the system efficiency is 80 % then energy required is 200 MWh, hence 40 MWh of renewable energy input.
Or should I follow another approach altogether?
I hope someone answers!
Thanks in advance
