We are working on an LCA model for an EPD in ecoinvent 3.11 with EN15804 Add-On and ran into something we are not sure about. In the raw material acquisition phase, our results are showing negative emissions. The material we’re modeling does contain a high share of wood, so we can understand that biogenic carbon storage plays a role, but the overall negative result for this phase still feels odd to us.
Has anyone experienced this before? Is it common (or acceptable) for the raw material stage to come out negative due to carbon uptake, or could it be a sign that we’ve made a mistake in the dataset or the way we’ve set up the model?
