Dear openLCA users, I would like to get more practice in performing studies in openLCA. I would like to therefore re-create some of the case studies that can be downloaded (specifically "cups", "dental floss", "sweater", and "bicycle"). To be able to compare my studies with the published studies I would like to start with the same database (I do have an ecoinvent license). But in the reports of the case studies I can only find the version of the ecoinvent databases the respective study is base on (e.g. v.3.4 for the bike-study), but not which system model (APOS, cut-off, consequential, consequential country-specific, and so on). Which is the easiest way to find out which database/system model I should download to reproduce the case studies?

Ah good point, if we indeed do not mention this we will add this. You see this in the ecoinvent datasets used in the case studies though, since the name provides the system model they "belong to", after the last |. As an example, "1,1-dimethylcyclopentane to generic market for solvent, organic | solvent, organic | Cutoff, U" is from cut-off.

Thank you very much for the swift reply. I can now see that the "dental floss" case study is based on APOS system model, while for the other three case studies mentioned in my question the cut-off system models were used. This can be partly found in the reports and indeed in the name of the providers as you suggested. (And my confusion about the database and system models version "unit" vs. "LCI" vs. "unit country-specific" etc. was solved by reading more about it). Thanks again!

Hi! To add more to what Andreas said,

  • Scooters - ecoinvent 3.6 APOS
  • sweater - ecoinvent 3.8 cut-off
  • dental floss - ecoinvent 3.7.1 APOS
  • cups - ecoinvent 3.4 cut-off
  • bike - ecoinvent 3.4 cut-off

This information can now be found under "description tab"

Kind regards,

Julia
