Hi everyone,

I am new to openLCA and I am modelling an electrooxidation process for treating the aqueous phase from a thermochemical conversion (TCR) process. The sole purpose of this treatment is to purify the water so it can be discharged, it has no other use.

I have two questions:

1. Should I model this as a waste treatment process? Since the only goal is to make the water suitable for discharge, I am unsure whether I should model it as a waste treatment process (with the treated water as a negative quantitative reference output, following the ELCD convention) or as a regular unit process.

2. How to handle the ammonium sulfate recovered as a by-product? During the electrooxidation, ammonium sulfate is recovered as a valuable by-product (avoided fertiliser). In my current workflow for avoided products, I usually add them as a negative value in the inputs AND as a positive value in the outputs (I never use the "Avoided product" checkbox). Should I follow the same approach here, or is there a better way to handle this in a waste treatment process context?

Thank you in advance for any guidance!
