I downloaded the NREL LCI database (National_Renewable_Energy_Laboratory_USLCI) in JSON format, as a Zip, and decompressed it. When I try to import it (New Database > Processes > Import > EcoSpold > Choose Directory, it just opens the file (which contains subfolders "currencies", "processes", "dq_systems", "locations", "actors"... etc., which contain the JSON files, and I am thus not able to click Next (it's greyed out).

I also tried importing the .zip file but it is greyed out when I go to choose the directory.

How do I import the NREL LCI database?

Appreciate any help on this!

Dowload the NREL database from https://www.lcacommons.gov/lca-collaboration/National_Renewable_Energy_Laboratory/USLCI/datasets as JSON-LD file. Create a new empty database and import the JSON-LD file (ZIP-FILE without prior unpacking!; select JSON-LD import).

Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately, I can't import the JSON-LD zip file because it is greyed out when I go to choose the directory

Maybe it's double-zipped? Are there folders in there or a zip file?

When I unzip it there are folders inside ("currencies", "processes", "dq_systems", "locations", "actors"... etc.) and in those folders are the .zip files (e.g. "0b2b785e-5cfd-4331-8711-790742934e47.json")

Sorry, from where exactly did you download the database? Can you send me a link?

... works perfectly fine on my PC. As written above, create an empty DB, right-click and select import and select the *.zip file (see picture above).

which option to import do you select? EcoSpold 1?

it worked! The .zip file was greyed out on the pop up screen but I was able to select it after closing the pop up window on the right column under choose directory.

Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately I have a new problem..

When I import the .zip file as Ecospold1, there is no new data imported..
I tried importing it both into an empty database and also as 'complete reference data', but no data is imported

Via the link that you have posted you can only download the data base as JSON-LD or ILCD file ... so why would you chose the Ecospold import? Just download the JSON-LD file and select JSON-LD import.

Great, it worked!

(I was following the steps in this guide which says to select ecospold 1 to import the NREL database...)

I have tried to follow the instructions provided by Jonas but am unable to import National_Renewable_Energy_Laboratory_USLCI.zip into openLCA. After downloading the JSON-LD file from the website Jonas provided, I created a local, empty database in openLCA. I right click on the name of the new database and select import. A pop-up window appears. I select "Linked Data (JSON_LD)" under the "Other" folder and click "Next." From my downloads directory, I can select the zip file and click "Finish." The window closes faster than I would expect and none of the data is in the new database. That database is still empty. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I'm using openLCA 1.8.0 and macOS Sierra version 10.12.6.  Thank you in advance for your help!

I have some problems related to this. I have downloaded the NREL database from that link, but as ILCD file. Then, I imported the zip file into openLCA software. but when I click 'Calculate' for the product system, an error occurred. Calculation failed..

Hi hana, your description is somewhat unspecific. Please open a new question with more information and also try JSON-LD which is openLCA's native format.

I am having the same issue.  Did you get this resolved?

It worked!  20222 update! What you have to do is to choose the folder containing the .zip file and not the .zip file directly. Afterwards it will be displayed in the windows below which file you want to choose and here you will select the .zip file.

Greetings!
