I was using version 2.1.1. with no issues. After coming back to the programme I saw there was an update so deleted my previous zip file and downloaded the new 2.2.0 version.

Now when I try to open a database I get this error. Could not get the version from the database. Is this an openLCA database?

The programme then freezes and I have to force close. I have since tried to reinstall the previous version 2.1.1 and uninstall 2.2.0 but the same issue occurs now on both versions. I have also redownloaded databases from nexus and attempted to restore them but the same issue persists.

Hope to hear from you soon, I was really looking forward to using this tool.

I also have faced this problem. When working on the software, there's zero error, even switching between databases, etc. But once you save everything and close the software and reopen it, it shows the databases (whatever I have opened restored previously) on the left panel, but all of them are inactive. When I double click to expand any of them, it throws the same erorr.

Plus, I can't restore any new database file too; as it says, failed to restore database. Unless I reinstall it, it doesnt work. As soon as I re-install it, everything works fine.

Someone suggested in some other answer (who also faced the same problem) that delete the log folder of that particular database from the installation directory of openlca and then restart the software. It worked for them.

The link to that question and reply: (https://ask.openlca.org/7158/can-not-open-database-anymore-openlca2-0-3)

It's quite a common problem.

Ok sorry to hear - normally this works really fine. The message appears typically if openLCA does not understand at all the database version information, and which happens if you open an updated or newer database with an older openLCA version. Maybe the computer was shut down during the update? You can create and open a new database in 2.2? Which database was it that you tried to update? You probably did not make a backup of the database before the update (which is recommended and suggested by the UI)? Thank you.

You do not need to install / uninstall zip installations btw., they can coexist on one computer.

Hello, although I could import the database on 2.2.0 on a Windows system, I also ran into the same problem when importing the ecoinvent v3.10 to openLCA 2.2.0 on mac (macOS Sonoma 14.6.1). I also cannot create a new database that the same error message "Failed to create the database" still showed up. Do you have any suggestions for this problem?
