Dear olca community,

I have a question about the modelling of a recycling process according to the 100/0 approach, using the ecoinvent 3.11 cut-off database.

I have a shredding process which has multilpe fractions outputs, eg. Ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals and polymers. Each output fraction undergoes further treatment steps and some fractions are seprated again, such as the polymers into light and heavy fraction.

At the end of the processes, different secondary materials are created, e.g. seondary aluminium, secondary polymer granulate etc.

My goal is now to calculate the burden of each recycled material, assuming that the incoming waste is burden free.

I want to have the final statement:

-1kg of secondary aluminium has X impact

-1kg of secondary polymer has Y impact

etc.

Is there a way to impement this in one product system or should I create a separate product system for each output material? Would you use normal processes or waste treatment processes + flows for this analysis? I am assuming since i am looking at the waste from a product perspective, it would be product flows, even though its waste?

Thanks for your insights,

Paul

Sorry - realized this was a stupid question - resolved it now.
