As regards the desalination plant, LCA is a generic method and also openLCA allows to make models for "everything"; this is a bit as if asking how to calculate the annual balance of a flower shop in a bookkeeping software, because the examples are for calculating the annual balance of a restaurant. There will be some small differences in cost types e.g., but the principle is of course the same. And an explanation is possible but of course takes some time, or needs more than one-two sentences (to just use a stupid example).
