Error when opening the openLCA DAL Tool

Question

Hi,

i'm trying to follow the instructions in the quick guide to the DAL but i get an error when i start the exe. It says:

"A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) must be available in order to run OpenLCA DAL. No Java virtual machine was found after searching the following locations: C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\xxxx\PEF 3.1 DB nexus\EF_3_1_openLCA_DAL_Windows_x64_1.0.0_2023-10-31-V1_1\openLCA DAL\jre\bin\javaw.exe

javaw.exe in your current PATH"

Is the problem on my side, was my download corrupted or incomplete or am i missing something else?

Hi, Java is included in the launcher, so it does not need to be found elsewhere. I would try again to download and unzip. Thank you!

Thank you for the answer. I downloaded and unpacked the zip file again, but unfortunatly i still get the same error message. Is there anything else i could try?

Maybe good to be aware that the tool works only in Windows (since Apple has a different installer mechanism) - we will share a direct download link for the database with you

Hi Palacsinta,

It is hard to guess what could be the issue on your side, but here are two hypotheses:

1. Your PATH environment variable is taking over the openLCA DAL path to the Java machine. You can try to modify openLCA DAL/openLCA DAL.ini file by adding the following before the -vmargs line:

-vm

./jre/bin/javaw.exe

2. It is sometimes better to unzip and run openLCA DAL in your home folder.

Yes, this .exe should be there!
Maybe, some antivirus are deleting it on download?
