Hello,

I am currently writing my thesis about the coupling of LCA with Energy System Models (ESM). I already did a lot of research about the topic and have a plan how I want to integrate the environmental impacts into an ESM tool. The problem is the data.

I only have access to the free databases and I feel there is not a right option to use. But which option would you recommend with the lowest extra work I need to put in:

- ProBas database with only using the system processes that are included and not using direct linking, there are multiple mistakes I came across, is there a possibility to clarify how to overcome them in a meeting? Also the flows are much less detailed then in the other databases, but the advantage is the coverage for Germany and the fact that the ESM tool already works with GEMIS data.

- EF Database: is there a free version of the old EF Database? Would you recommend buying the Database Analyser and Launcher to use this database insteat? Is it much better organized then the ProBas Database and does it include data sets about electricity and heat, as well as renewable technologies?

- Are maybe ELCD and NEEDS a better option? I already excluded them because of the very old datasets and the limitation, that none of them will get updated data sets anytime in the future. Additionally NEEDS has not really a devision into unit and system processes if I understand it right, how does the database handle the processes exactly.

I really hope you can help me with some advices on the data sets!

Greetings
