Dear Team OpenLCA

Currently, I am trying to import the dataset from GLAD database (https://www.globallcadataaccess.org/); which is freely available in multiple formats (e.g., Ecospold 1, Ecospold 2, ILCD, and/or JSON-LD supported by openLCA). However, none of the downloaded file formats seems compatible with the  openLCA software. Would you please guid me how may I utilize that dataset?

Looking forward to your response.

Hi Awais,

well openLCA supports all these formats with exception of the EcoSpold2 format for reasons I have explained here to quite some extent earlier; what do you want to import (as in GLAD, you do not have "the dataset" but a collection of different sources, and for only some datasets, direct access and download is possible, while for others it is only a reference to the database provider site, to buy then the datasets or database).

Thank you!

Andreas

Update based on your comment:

Thank you very much, I tested the first dataset, using ILCD sind this was created in the GaBi LCA software and exported as ILCD, and the result is this:

So the dataset is incomplete as it is in GLAD. It is very common for datasets exported from GaBi, that "things" known in the GaBi software are not exported, as here some flow properties, I guess to save time and space (ILCD is a very bulky, slow to read format resulting in big files, compared to our JSON) and also maybe to prevent other tools from reading the data correctly.

This raises a bit the question, of course, how this fits to the claim of GLAD..

..but that's how it is.

Also, on the side, I was curious about the "open source project" nature of GLAD, and it is open source because it uses the conversion service and a REST service, both from GreenDelta, that we published on Git. That's it ;)

Dear Andreas,

Thank you very much for the detailed answer!

My goal is to compare the different pathways (fossil- vs bio-based) for ethylene production in Thailand. I do not have the access to ecoinvent; therefore, I need to rely on freely available databases and/or datasets for my case study. For this purpose, I'm trying to access the following:

1. Electricity grid mix; AC, technology mix; consumption mix, to consumer; <1kV for Thailand (available at: https://www.globallcadataaccess.org/electricity-grid-mix-ac-technology-mix-consumption-mix-consumer-3)

2. Ethylene Production ; Ethylene ; Natural Gas Ethane to Ethylene Route ; Natural Gas Ethane (available at: https://www.globallcadataaccess.org/ethylene-production-ethylene-natural-gas-ethane-ethylene-route-natural-gas-ethane)

3. Ethylene Production ; Ethylene ; Naphtha Route ; Naphtha (available at: https://www.globallcadataaccess.org/ethylene-production-ethylene-naphtha-route-naphtha-1)

Would you please guide me how should I proceed further and integrate the above mentioned datasets (as a process) with the Agribalyse database?

Guidance from your side would be much appreciated. Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

Awais
