I am working on modeling renewable natural gas to the Canadian CFR model using openLCA. in that model pipeline transport is reported using ton*km but I do not see how, or where I can input the relevant distance. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Hello JayBruce,

in the respective amount field. t*km does not only refer to lorry, ship, train or plane but also to transport through a pipeline: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php?title=Glossary:Tonne-kilometre_(tkm). The respective process you have chosen refers to its impacts on transporting 1 kg per kilometer pipeline. So if you add a transport pipeline product flow to any process, the unit will be tkm and you can just add the distance (there is a difference between onshore and offshore pipelines, take care).

Hope this helps,

Jonas

Thank you Jonas for the reply.

So if pipeline lenght is 500 km I would put 500 as amount and km as units on that line?

That makes sense. I will give it a try.
